SUTDs Honk! mobile app is to ride on Singapore householders existing familiarity with karung gunis and charities when recycling items. This app will address the crucial communication gap that help householders and karung gunis to coordinate the collection schedule using in app tools.

SUTDs Honk! app enables easy communications between Recycling and Waste Disposal (RWD) agents (i.e. karang gunis, charities) and the Householders. The communication channels are designed for information exchange on items for exchange. The presence of RWD agents are notified through in-app notification. The Householders and RWD agents can establish real-time communication with, In-app messaging and phone call tools.

Key functionalities for householders:
The mobile app allows householders to post items that they wish to dispose of and which they hope someone will collect for recycling or re-use. Householders can indicate their preferred time-slot for their item to be collected by RWD agents who will visit the designated neighbourhood.
Householders can receive a notification when RWD agents are within their neighbourhood radius, track the GPS position of the RWD agents present in the neighbourhood and initiate a call for item collection through the app.

Key functionalities for RWD agents:
Participating RWD agents will be able to view items that are posted by a number of householders in a given neighbourhood and identify items that they may be interested to acquire. The app shall allow RWD agents to accept item collection requests filtered by time-slots and communicate with householders using an in-app messaging function. RWD agents shall be able to indicate their prospective schedule for item collection in the neighbourhood. When RWD agents are physically present in the neighbourhood, a check-In function allows the app to notify householders subscribed to the app in the neighbourhood, functioning as an electronic version of "honking a horn" as conventionally used by karung gunis.
